Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] rhuia
Author: [livejournal.com profile] saki101
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock/John, Lestrade/Mycroft (slightly)
Rating: R-ish
Word Count: ~9.5K
Warnings: None (although not Series 3-compliant)
Summary: A rather mundane case brings John and Sherlock to a castle. John finds the atmosphere stimulates his imagination. Sherlock takes note.
Prompts: Included: “…would prefer something leaning towards the fluffier/crackier end in this 'verse” and “feel free to ignore the season altogether and/or go with future fic” and “fluff, hurt/comfort, schmoop…magical realism…” Being thus liberated, I may have gone a bit wild.
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] rhuia for the June 2014 Holmestice Exchange. Many thanks to her for the great prompts and many thanks to my beta who wishes to remain anonymous. There is a prequel to this story, entitled Moats. (Please see end notes for photo source.)

Title: Surveillance (Chapter 2 of Seat Assignment: Open)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] saki101
Characters/Pairings: Gregory Lestrade/Mycroft Holmes
Rating: R-ish
Genre: Slash, romance, AU
Word Count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: Sherlock is not mine and no money is being made.
Summary: Starlight. Conversation. Surveillance tapes.
A/N: Not Series 3 compliant. A continuation of the fic written for Let's Write Sherlock Challenge 13-Vacation Getaway. Although these two chapters may be read alone, they may also be read as part of the Mystrade set of stories which, more or less, began with an earlier holiday in We Are Sorry For Any Inconvenience.

Excerpt: The room at the top of the stairs was dominated by a skylight, a huge oval of star-scattered heavens. By the faint light from the landing, Greg saw a few outlines of furniture and more sky out a series of arched windows making up one wall. It didn’t seem very secure, not at all suited to Mycroft. There was a click and the light disappeared, the stars coming into sharper focus.

Summary: During the Hiatus, Greg’s and Mycroft’s interest in one another develops beyond the professional.
A/N: Not Series 3 compliant. Written for Let's Write Sherlock Challenge 13-Vacation Getaway. Although the story may be read alone, the theme of the challenge prompted me to write another story in the Mystrade series which, more or less, began with an earlier holiday in We Are Sorry For Any Inconvenience.

Excerpt: Nine days of leisure stretched before Greg. He hadn’t a reservation or a plan for a single hour of it. He’d received a few winks and nudges when he’d said he hadn’t booked anything. A week in bed with a like-minded partner would have been an excellent way to spend the time, but he didn’t have that lined up either. He pushed a certain thought away as he slipped between the tourists and commuters and continued east along the Embankment.

Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, OCs
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Slash
Word Count: ~2.7K

Summary: A fairly straightforward stolen property case yields information about Sherlock's childhood and John's imagination.
Notes: A small, stand-alone case fic inspired by photos. Not Series 3 compliant.
Moats may also be read as part of the Other Experiments Series; it would fit in after Leaf Fall.

Excerpt: "Old moats are full of surprises," Sherlock said. There was a gleam in his eye; the corner of a lip turning up.

It always put them at risk, Sherlock's glee at the prospect of a surprise.

Rating: PG
Genre: Slash
Word Count: ~650

Summary: During the Hiatus, one of the Met’s cases and one of Mycroft’s investigations intersect and both Greg and Mycroft find themselves looking for evidence of something other than crime.
A/N: A little vignette which can be read alone or with the other Mystrade stories that are part of the Other Experiments Series. Ex Libris would be an extra scene between Necropolis and Safer.

Excerpt:
The concerto finished. Greg paused in his reading, eyes flitting around the edges of the page. At the top, a hare and a winged serpent nestled in the vines. Below them, a knight charged inside an ornate letter, brandishing an upraised sword. Was it the picture that had appealed? In the quiet, the faint snap of a mobile sliding closed sounded loud.

Summary: During the Hiatus, one of the Met’s cases and one of Mycroft’s investigations intersect and Greg’s and Mycroft’s interest in one another develops beyond the professional. Sherlock finds much of it inconvenient.
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] mmc12 whose generous prompts for the December 2013 Holmestice Exchange included "Johnlock, Mystrade and Anything!" which spurred me to write a sequel to Necropolis. The two may be read as a pair or as part of the Other Experiments Series where they would fit in after We Are Sorry For Any Inconvenience and before Leaf Fall.

Summary: Sherlock had been counting on the foliage for cover. Nature had other plans.

On AO3

A small stand-alone inspired by the season.

Leaf Fall may also be read as part of the Other Experiments Series; it would fit in a while after Necropolis. (For those who have read Necropolis, there is a small word game in Leaf Fall based on some symbols in the former.)

Excerpt: Sherlock glared through the bare branches of the shrubs curving around the east side of the hillock, dividing it from the lower path and the bench on its verge. Only the holly stood green and glossy to one side. “It wasn’t that windy last night,” he hissed, consulting his phone again. He shoved it in his pocket. A leaf floated past, serrated and gold, to land on the pile that came nearly to his knees.

Can be read alone.

Necropolis may also be read as a sequel to We're Sorry For Any Inconvenience.

Summary: Months after The Fall, John doesn't return from a holiday. His friends and family don't report his absence to the police. Mycroft thinks Lestrade may know why. At least that's the ostensible reason for his visit to Lestade's office.
A/N: Written for the Sherlockmas SPF 2013 to fill Prompt #39: Lestrade; upgrade to first class for [livejournal.com profile] bwblack)

Also, posted on AO3

Can be read alone.

(The first paragraph is a summary of the opening scene between Mycroft and Lestrade in Carbonado. The full conversation that preceded Mycroft’s offer may be read here.)

We're Sorry For Any Inconvenience may also be read as part of the Other Experiments series where it would fit in after Carbonado.

Excerpt: Lestrade considered the man standing in his office. He was sure that if Sherlock wanted his brother to know he was alive and well and where he and John were, Mycroft wouldn’t be suggesting a friendly chat over dinner. Mycroft gestured towards the door as Greg stood and rounded the desk. He knew it was a dangerous move to accept, but Sherlock wasn’t the only one who loved a challenge.

Excerpt: “The folks from the theatre were more than willing to help; they’re still grateful about The Navel Treatment case. Well, of course, you know that,” I continued, heading towards the fridge. Can be read alone or as part of the Other Experiments series where it would fit in after Reliquary and before Revisionist. (Other Experiments begins with Sometimes.)

Excerpt: “Why must you go? I don’t approve,” Sherlock said, drawing himself up to his maximum height and directing a stern look at his older brother. “I’ve considered it carefully and it makes no sense for you to waste your time with a gaggle of idiots rather than spending it with me. My company is far more edifying than theirs could ever be.” Sherlock brushed a curl from his forehead without losing a whit of his outrage or his dignity.

Mycroft studied the slim, pale child in front of him and remembered gathering a new bundle of life in his arms and thinking that it would always be his, his brother, his companion, his responsibility.

This is a continuation of the situation in Icarus Clipped and needs to be read in conjunction with that story. Icarus Clipped and Reliquary together form a unit, which can stand alone.

They may also be read as part of the Other Experiments series where Reliquary would fit in after Icarus Clipped and before Aberdeen to Euston.

Excerpt: Consciousness formed a rectangle in the middle of his back, hot and hard. His limbs were not interested in moving; they clung to sleep, but the heat was uncomfortable. John bent an arm to lift himself up to look for the cause. A hand landed between his shoulder blades; his face landed back in his pillow. There was a faint whirr, several clicks. His consciousness expanded.

Excerpt: The surface of the water rippled where it had closed over his head. Fluid heat pressed against his eyelids, into his ears, sealing out the world, magnifying the sound of his heartbeat, providing a brief respite. His muscles relaxed further, even the ones in his face, especially the ones in his face, which suppressed one emotion to mimic another, showing nothing he didn’t want shown.
