This is mostly the thirty segments of backstory which I posted during November 2011's PicoWriMo. The extended flashback is far from finished, but as I have re-ordered them the selections follow one another fairly continuously, so I thought I'd collect them in one place with the hope that more work will be done from the foundation gathered here. Feedback would be most appreciated.

For those who have read Third (and can still remember it), this describes how Illya, Daria (Dasha), Alexandra (Sasha), Kyrill and Pavel met one another (pre-UNCLE).

Part III has been a very long time coming, so everyone's patience probably ran out ages ago. If, by some miracle, it has not, then here is a further expansion of Third, an Easter Egg I posted at MFU Writers Survival School in April 2010 and continued in May. Some readers wanted to know more about Illya's mysterious friends. Palme d'Or starts the morning after Parts I and II and explains some of the connections between the characters.

This story starts from this screencap from The Off Broadway Affair , but is not connected to the episode at all. The lively discussion which followed the posting of the first screencap in late February sparked the idea. Subsequent screenscaps such as An invitation? A warning? and Sleight of Hand? as well as evocative ones posted by other cousins, and the ensuing lively discussions, inspired the continuation.

Part I can stand by itself as well as being the first chapter of the expanded version of Without a Word. I see the action of the story occurring somewhere between two of my other stories, Overtures and Bare Hands.

There are slash and het implications in the early chapters. By Part IV they are no longer merely implications, the rating becomes NC-17 and I wouldn't consider it work safe from then on.

Napoleon was smiling sweetly at the receptionist while she unclipped his badge when she asked, "Did Illya give you the message from Veronica?"

The smile wavered an instant before Napoleon brought it back to the proper magnitude and asked casually, "When did you give it to him? I haven't seen him all afternoon."

"Right after lunch," Lily answered, gazing directly into Napoleon's eyes. "He was headed for that meeting you both had with Section Three." She paused and her eyes dropped to the desk calendar. "It got postponed until Monday at the last minute..."
