Seven Book Cover Challenge - Day Three

A few days ago, elmey issued an open invitation to post covers of seven books one loves - one cover a day for a week. There is to be no explanation or review, just the cover. With each cover one is to ask someone else to take up the challenge. Rather than tag folks who might not care to do this or have already done this, I, too, am issuing an open invitation to participate to anyone reading who would enjoy doing so!

It's a facsimile of a hand-decorated manuscript that the author did as a present for his wife in 1913. I've used it as a reference, but it is just pretty to look through.

It is! And the inside is just as pretty. The whole thing is a copy of a hand-painted manuscript. It's my second copy of it as one of the times I lent out my first copy, it didn't come back. I have a feeling I may have found the replacement at a garage sale, but I'm not positive anymore. It was a long time ago!

I especially like the cover because I am very fond of pansies.

It's a dear, little book and always a pleasure to look things up in it, although there's a lot of variation in what the meanings of sundry flowers are. Still, I usually start with this one and supplement it with a browse on the internet.

It's a copy of a manuscript from 1913. Even the inscription is copied on the inside of the cover. It was a birthday present.

I am very fond of pansies too. This cover reminds me of a painting of pansies my grandma made that hangs in my childhood bedroom. A happy memory! :)

How nice to have a book on the subject rather than simply looking things up on the internet.

Proportionally, it's not as bad as it sounds. I recommend my favourites a lot and have lent out loads of them and almost all came back. I was sad that those two didn't, but was very pleased to be able to replace them.

Another hand-made gift! Pansies for thoughts. (I think of them as cat flowers, not only because of the whisker-y markings many varieties have on their petals, but because they are velvety like a cat's nose. Such was my childhood impression and it's stuck with me.)

I know. There's a sort of ritual about it. I always enjoy getting it down from its shelf and opening it up to check meanings. All the pages have water colour borders, too.
