This is just beautifully conceived and written. I love the ambiguous nature of it, steam and mirrors and flashes of memory. I also like that it's not inconceivable to John that he might have punched Sherlock. This still has the Edgar Allan Poe atmosphere; it can fit both into the canon world and into an AU world.
