Wow! I just realized that the initial experiment didn't happen that long ago (sometime in the nineteenth century?). Or is that wrong? After all there is the legend of Danaë and the Golden Shower (Zeus). What do you think? :D

I especially loved the opening and closing scenes (and your fruit motif--thinking back to Sherlock giving John fruit in Experiments), so sensual and lovely. Also: "I always follow. Don’t forget to let me follow." set against "I walked away from you in the graveyard. I did it again in the lab. I’m done walking away."
*wibble*

This passage might be tricky for someone to interpret, unless they read it several times: "He could have seen such an image for other reasons in the drear months now past, the lonely contours of a man who hadn’t adjusted to the absence of the body that brought him peace. Afterwards, tears would sometimes come. He tried to be quiet, so Mrs Hudson wouldn’t hear if she were out in the hall. At those times, the sheet covering him would barely move at all."

Sherlock keeps bracing for the final blow, eh? The thing that will send John fleeing. And John realizing that he will have to remember how much he missed/would miss Sherlock to keep himself from leaving. I look forward to John fighting his anger in the future...
