John is one of those fabulous characters where you just know there's so much going on under the lid - and you write him beautifully that way.

And no - I haven't read The Quiet Man, thank you for mentioning it, I'll bookmark it right away. Sherlock's a fandom where I'm more inclined to dabble in reading recs rather than hunting and consuming everything I can lay hands on; I think because the canon is so perfect, it hasn't left me lusting desperately for the way it should have been *g*
