I'm still here and I'm loving this! I was on vacation for a few weeks and am slowly getting back into commenting, until the start of the academic year sucks up more of my time.

John and Sherlock are both suffering; John losing weight is not a positive sign. And Sherlock is right to worry about the limits of John's forgiveness.

I like the scene with Dr. Bertrand; your description makes me wonder about who he is, beyond what he is telling. John's jealousy is an interesting development, not a typical reaction for someone who knew your beloved as a child, but certainly not impossible. I suspect, however, that emotion may be intensified by his bond with Sherlock.

Again, I like the gaps in the story and the flashbacks. The way you structure the story is immensely attractive to me and especially good in this chapter, balancing forward momentum with dispensing information.
